Whereas, independent and privately-funded colleges and institutions may voluntarily accredit themselves to the British Accreditation Council www.the-bac.org
It is illegal in the UK to offer degrees or related qualifications without proper authorization. Authorization may be granted under Royal Charter or by Act of Parliament or by a special order of the Department for Education and Skills. In order to award degrees, colleges and universities must demonstrate a commitment to quality assurance and show that they have adequate systems for safeguarding academic standards. The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education publishes a code of practice, information on benchmark standards, and qualification frameworks that give details of the quality and standards publicly funded institutions are expected to maintain. This is available on the QAA website www.qaa.ac.uk .
Semesters :
Main intake every year commences in February/March whereas most of the universities also have an intake in July.
There are two semesters per year, from February to June and July to November.
Admission:
UK undergraduate degrees can take only three years and postgraduate Masters courses only one year - compared with four years and two years in most other countries. This means the student will save a great deal on both tuition fees and living costs - and The student will be able to start working and earning money sooner. UK degree courses are shorter because they are more intensive, and therefore more efficient in terms of time and money.
Admission is based on individual institutions' requirements, since there are no pre-requisite tests (other than for English proficiency).
Most universities require good performance at the undergraduate level, in relevant area, in order to consider admission into their Masters level programs. Most Masters programs are of 12 months duration.
MBA admission requires work experience of at least 2-3 years at the managerial level, in all decent UK universities. However, Bharat Student can help with admission in a few universities, without work experience, if the GMAT score is decent.
And, unlike in the US, PhD applicants need a Master's degree. Otherwise, applicants could register for a M.Phil. degree and transfer to PhD program if the progress is good.
